Youth Sports Equity Taskforce
Our Purpose
Project Play WNY launched the Youth Sports Equity Taskforce in 2025 to work to dismantle inequitable systems that impact Western New York communities, achieve racial justice and remove barriers to participation in sports.
The task force, composed of members of the sport, youth services, municipal, academic and business communities, will define a vision of sports equity for the community, identify the root problems that create sports equity barriers and ultimately establish action strategies and identify necessary resources to achieve success.

Youth sport participation has steeply declined among black and brown children in particular
Boys’ participation in sports has declined by nearly 10%
Income continues to impact access to youth sports
